Rectal Prolapse

Rectal prolapse in infants usually reduces spontaneously in most cases.
If it does not heal spontaneously, a medical examination is recommended and the mucosa must be put back in place every time it protrudes.

Infants suffering from rectal prolapse should be taught to avoid excessive abdominal straining, especially upon defecation.

Adults suffering from rectal prolapse should treat constipation first, by following a high-fibre diet, drinking plenty of water during the day and avoiding sitting too long on the toilet bowl at defecation.
