What is THD® Doppler surgery?
Technological and medical research has made available an alternative patient-friendly surgical treatment for haemorrhoid: THD® Doppler procedure.
THD® Doppler Method is an advanced surgical technique for haemorrhoid treatment, with the main aim to preserve the anorectal anatomy without the need for surgical removal of the haemorrhoid.
During this procedure, the colorectal surgeon ligates vessels that bring arterial blood to the haemorrhoids which reduces the excessive blood flow. This ligation occurs in an area less sensitive to pain and is then followed by the repositioning of prolapsed haemorrhoid at their original site.
The good results achieved and reported using THD® Doppler method have led to a growing number of surgeons offering THD to an increasing number of patients.
How is the THD® Doppler procedure performed?
The colorectal surgeon performs THD® Doppler procedure by using a special anoscope and a Doppler probe. The Doppler signal makes it possible for the surgeon to precisely locate haemorrhoid arterial vessels and ligate them, reducing excessive blood flow to the haemorrhoidal cushions.
If haemorrhoids are prolapsed outside the anus, the surgeon performs a mucopexy, by repositioning the haemorrhoidal mucosa in its original position.
The procedure is performed in an area with no pain receptors and takes about 30 minutes. Since it is a day-surgery, overnight hospitalisation is not usually required.
When is the THD® Doppler Method indicated?
THD® Doppler procedure is indicated for internal haemorrhoids that have not responded to conservative or topical treatments. Based on clinical evidence, the THD® Doppler method achieves good results for all grades of haemorrhoids and is effective in treating prolapsed haemorrhoids.
However, only the colorectal specialist can decide whether it is necessary to perform this procedure, by means of a colorectal examination.
THD® haemorrhoid surgery: benefits
THD® Doppler surgery offers several benefits to patients, in particular:
- respect of the anatomy of the anorectal region
- minimal pain and discomfort both pre and post- surgery
- quick recovery and rapid return to daily activities
- low recurrence rate
- effective on both causes and symptoms of the haemorrhoidal disease
Where to find THD® haemorrhoid procedure?
THD® Doppler procedure is a minimally invasive surgical answer to haemorrhoidal disease and is adopted in multiple medical centres and hospitals worldwide.
